Family, friends, and the communities of Hanover and Walkerton, Ontario, are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Braden Weppler, who passed away unexpectedly on July 12, 2026, at the age of 19. His passing has left an immeasurable void in the lives of those who knew and loved him, as they remember a remarkable young man whose compassion, generosity, and adventurous spirit touched countless lives.
Known affectionately as “Brady” or “Brady Wepps” by his friends, Braden embraced life with boundless energy and enthusiasm. Whether mountain biking, fishing, running, or listening to his favorite band, the Arkells, he found joy in every opportunity to experience the outdoors and create lasting memories with those closest to him.
A dedicated athlete, Braden was a passionate hockey goaltender who proudly played for the Hanover Falcons, later known as the Saugeen Steelheads. Some of his most treasured memories came from sharing the ice with his younger brother, Isaak, and lifelong friends. Away from the rink, he remained a loyal fan of the Vancouver Canucks and the Seattle Mariners.
Braden was also a gifted artist with a creative spirit and a compassionate heart. He had recently begun pursuing a degree in Child and Youth Care at the University of Victoria, inspired by his desire to support and uplift young people. His decision reflected the kindness that defined his character and his commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Those who knew Braden remember countless acts of quiet generosity. Whether surprising children at a neighborhood lemonade stand with a generous tip or giving an NHL puck to a young fan simply to make them smile, he consistently put others before himself. Friends and family say those simple acts perfectly captured who he was—a thoughtful, humble, and genuinely caring young man.
Braden is survived by his mother, Traci Weppler and her partner Kyle; his father, Kris Weppler and his partner Ashley; his beloved younger brother, Isaak; his girlfriend, Violet Bertram; his grandparents, extended family, and many cherished friends. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Tito and Petey, who were constant companions.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at Mighton Funeral Home on Friday, July 17, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 11:00 a.m. at The Carriage House in Hanover. Those attending the visitation are encouraged to wear their favorite sports jersey in Braden’s honor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saugeen Valley Minor Hockey or to an education fund established for his brother, Isaak.
Though his life ended far too soon, Braden Weppler’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and love for others will continue to inspire everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
